The “Codice Fiscale” is a document necessary for both temporary and long term stays in Italy.

The “Codice Fiscale” enables the citizen to open an Italian bank account, to register a rental contract, to work or study and to obtain the healthcare card.

In general, the “Codice Fiscale” is necessary for the immigration process and to obtain the documentation for a successful relocation in Italy.

The “Codice Fiscale”, which is necessary for stays longer than 3 months, can be obtained directly at the local Italian Embassy or upon arrival in Italy. The process can take long time (especially at the Italian embassies) and the documents are often available in Italian language only.
