Students from non-EU countries will need to get a Spanish residence card or TIE. The TIE is different from the NIE, but they’re closely related. The NIE, or numero de identitdad de extranjeros, is your personal identification number in Spain. The TIE is an official residence card.

The TIE student residence card gives you many privileges:

• TIE replaces the visa and gives you an unlimited days to stay in Spain during the duration of the card
• Guarantees visa-free entry to all EU countries
• Automatically assignment foreigner’s identification number (NIE)
• Possibility to combine study with work up to 4 hours a day
• Allows to stay in Spain for a year, could be extended directly in loco
• Enables to stay legally in the country after studies

1. Step – requesting online appointment by filling in the necessary data, pay the government fee;
2. Step – going to the appointment to complete the process and receive the TIE.
