Accountancy in Italy
The accountancy system in Italy has strict regulations for both freelance and companies. Generally, freelance accountancy requires keeping a registration of the sales invoices and of the purchase documents. Taxation and the possibility of cost deduction depend on the type of freelanc; this is why before opening a freelance account we always recommend a preliminary consultancy with our tax advisor (“commercialista”).
The accountancy for companies is more complex, since the keeping of books and registration process is mandatory for companies operating in Italy. The books are divided into Income Statement and Balance Sheet, and all sales and purchase operations need to be correctly registered: a good accountancy is necessary to avoid penalties and for an efficient functioning of the company.
Generally, an experienced accountant and a savvy tax consultant are required for every company operating in Italy.
Payroll in Italy
Companies and freelance operating in Italy need to comply with strict and complicated labor regulations: the payroll system in Italy has to be managed only by experts.
- For freelance workers, the payroll isn’t necessary: the tax obligations are fulfilled directly by the tax advisor (“Commercialista”).
- For companies employing staff in Italy and/or having its legal representative / owner / CEO residing in Italy, hiring a payroll studio is necessary.
The staff hiring and termination process requires different type of communication to several government agencies (Pension, Chamber of Commerce, Insurance, …) and only specialists can fulfill these obligations.
Also, finding the right contract and formulas it’s possible to avoid penalties, cost and headaches in the future.
Also during the employment contract the payroll obligations can be managed only by a professional payroll studio, this is why we strongly recommend to choose carefully.

- First of all, we offer a free consultancy to better understand the specific requirements of each client; if necessary, we arrange a meeting with the tax advisor and/or payroll manager.
- Once the requirements are clear, we provide a quote and a contract for the services: when accepted, one dedicated account will assist the client for the whole duration of the collaboration.
- The collaboration starts with a setup phase, where the processes are agreed and the repository for documents are shared.
- Then, once the process is implemented, a common timeline to manage the accountancy / payroll are shared.
